Happy Birthday to Kotaku’s 2025 Game of the Year Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Sandfall Interactive’s RPG has made one trip around the sun and has spent most of its first year winning a bunch of awards and being lauded as some kind of industry savior. But we’re not here to talk about that, we’re here to talk about how the game got a new update to celebrate the anniversary.
The v1.5.5 patch is very small, with a list of bug fixes so short you could almost fit it in a Bluesky post, but the headliner here is that each of the party members are getting new “Anniversary” haircuts like they stepped right out of the salon to go on a life-threatening expedition. You know that scene in Fleabag where the main character is at her mother’s funeral and everyone keeps telling her that she looks incredible despite the circumstances, and even though she tries to deglamorize herself so she looks appropriate for the setting her hair keeps falling in this “really chic way”? It’s kind of like that.
Clair Obscur has gotten enough free post-game support already that I wasn’t expecting anything huge for the anniversary, so this cute little add-on feels like a fitting gesture. The full patch notes are as follows:

Added 1st Anniversary haircuts for the expedition!
- Gustave’s Anniversary haircut is available at the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs.
- Verso + Maelle + Lune + Sciel + Monoco’s Anniversary haircuts are available at the Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tête on the World Map.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where Danseuse outfit for Lune and Sciel made the character menu too obscur.
- Fixed an issue where it was not possible to open a rest point in various locations when an in-world dialogue was playing.
- Fixed collision issues in various locations.
- Adjusted some achievement text for consistency.
