Robert Sanchez is still Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, but that may not be the case next season.

The 28-year-old has had a real up and down campaign at Chelsea, with more downs of late, while the Blues have been linked with multiple shot-stoppers.

One of them is at a Premier League rival but appears open to leaving that club this summer.

Chelsea continuing to make history under Liam Rosenior… for all the wrong reasons!

James Trafford open to leaving Manchester City

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing James Trafford from Manchester City.

With Trafford currently the No.2 behind Gianluigi Donnarumma, the 23-year-old is a realistic transfer target for the Blues.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who has shared an update on Trafford’s situation on X, the Englishman is “open” to leaving the Etihad in a boost to Chelsea.

The Club World Cup winners currently have Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in their first-team squad, while Mike Penders could return from his loan at Strasbourg.

It means Chelsea will have to sell at least one of Sanchez or Jorgensen in the summer if they want to sign Trafford, or perhaps even both, depending on what they decide to do with Penders.

Why Robert Sanchez’s Chelsea career may have just ended at the Amex

Sanchez started in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night and kept the score down.

The Spaniard made some excellent saves, but he did gift Brighton with one opportunity after passing the ball straight to one of their players in the box.

It was the kind of mistake that Sanchez makes too often and shows why he cannot be completely trusted.

That moment and the overall defeat could have ramifications for him. The loss may end up costing Liam Rosenior his job, and after everything that has happened this season, including in that game, whoever replaces the 41-year-old may want to go in a different direction in goal.

Ultimately, Tuesday night was not the time for Sanchez to remind everyone that he has a mistake in him.
