Stamford Bridge is once again looking to the past to fix its fractured present, with John Terry and Frank Lampard’s names coming up at Chelsea after Liam Rosenior’s exit.
John Terry remains a massive influence at Chelsea, though his current role is focused on the youth ranks. He works part-time at the academy, helping develop the next generation while occasionally popping up in first-team discussions during periods of crisis.
Despite his legendary status and previous experience as an assistant at Aston Villa and Leicester, he hasn’t yet leaped into a full-time head coaching role at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea refused to have John Terry as the temporary manager, with claims that he was rejected and would never get the job.
In contrast, Frank Lampard has completely rebuilt his reputation away from London. Since his interim spell at Chelsea ended in 2023, he took over at Coventry City and worked wonders, recently guiding them back to the Premier League for the first time since 2001.

Chelsea considering John Terry and Frank Lampard
According to Caught Offside, whispers from inside Chelsea’s boardroom suggest some voices are actively pushing for the return of club icons John Terry or Frank Lampard.
They are hoping their legendary status alone can inject some desperately needed fighting spirit into a fragile dressing room.
However, there’s no confirmation at this point about whether any of this is true and it remains unlikely that they would suddenly bring either man in.

Bringing in John Terry and Frank Lampard on a coaching basis would make sense
John Terry and Frank Lampard would offer Chelsea the immediate fighting spirit and identity the dressing room has lacked since Maresca’s exit.
Terry has the players’ respect and understands the high standards required at the Bridge. However, Lampard’s remarkable success makes a Chelsea return almost impossible.
Having finally established himself on his own terms, he is unlikely to abandon his Premier League project at Coventry to join the chaos at Stamford Bridge.
