While Cesc Fabregas has been loosely linked with the vacant managerial seat at Stamford Bridge, reports suggest his long-term sights are firmly set on a return to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta, whose contract runs until 2027, has recently denied reports of a new extension, insisting his focus is purely on the current title race.

This has placed former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas at the heart of a brewing tug-of-war. His impressive work at Como has not only made him Arsenal’s ideal successor should Arteta move on, but has also landed him on Chelsea’s shortlist following Liam Rosenior’s departure.

However, there are question marks over whether Fabregas falls under the same category as Liam Rosenior. A manager who is yet to really cut it at the top level or in the Premier League, so there are concerns.

Where will Chelsea finish this season? Will they get a European spot?🤔

Cesc Fabregas prefers Arsenal over Chelsea

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, Kaveh Solhekol has stated that Fabregas is actually eyeing a position at Arsenal in the long-term amid interest from Chelsea.

“Cesc Fabregas, what I’ve been told, there’s some kind of suggestion that long-term, the plan for him is to manage Arsenal one day. I’m not sure moving to Chelsea would be part of his career progression.”

This will come as a big blow for Chelsea fans who voted for Fabregas as the favourite to become the new manager, even when Liam Rosenior was still in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Out of the managers we have been linked with, which one do you think might be able to get the very best out of Cole Palmer again?👀

Xabi Alonso needs to be the number one target

Xabi Alonso stands out as the essential target for Chelsea because he possesses the elite, trophy-winning pedigree that other candidates cannot match.

Unlike Andoni Iraola, who has impressed at Bournemouth but lacks experience in major finals or title charges, Alonso has already shown he can hack it. His historic, unbeaten Bundesliga title and domestic treble with Bayer Leverkusen put the whole footballing world on notice.

Iraola does offer Premier League familiarity and a solid mid-table track record, but Chelsea’s current instability demands a big character who has managed superstars at clubs like Real Madrid.
