Canon India has announced the EOS R6V camera and RF 20-50mm F4L IS USM lens. The body shares the 32.5-megapixel full-frame sensor and subject-tracking autofocus of the R6 Mark III, but has been reconfigured for video-first use: it gains a built-in cooling fan, a dedicated vertical tripod socket, and 7K Open Gate RAW and MP4 recording across the full sensor area.
The cooling fan is the more consequential addition. Canon says it allows sustained 7K Open Gate MP4 recording for roughly three times as long as the R6 Mark III before the camera throttles — relevant for anyone shooting long interviews, live events or extended single takes.
7K Open Gate recording uses the complete sensor area rather than a cropped region. This gives editors more flexibility when reframing footage for vertical formats in post, without needing a separate shoot.
The EOS R6V includes a vertical tripod socket built into the body, so portrait-orientation mounting does not require an L-bracket. The camera’s interface automatically reorientates to match. The body’s low-protrusion profile is also designed to sit cleanly in cages and on rigs.
Tiger Ishii, managing executive officer, Canon Inc., president, Canon marketing Asia, president and CEO, Canon Singapore Pte Ltd, said: “India is one of our most strategic markets worldwide standing at the forefront of a powerful storytelling evolution. From weddings, cinematography and regional cinema to digital-first content and independent productions, creators today demand tools that deliver cinematic excellence, mobility, and workflow agility without compromise. With the launch of the EOS R6V camera and RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens, we are reinforcing our commitment to this evolving video ecosystem through a future-ready full-frame solution engineered for modern production environments. More than a product launch, this marks another step in Canon’s long-term vision to fuel the next phase of filmmaking and content creation in the country.”
The accompanying lens is Canon’s first full-frame L-series optic with a motorised power zoom. The barrel does not extend during zooming, which avoids the need to rebalance a gimbal or rig mid-shoot. Zoom speed is configurable across 15 levels for both fast and slow transitions, via either the lens ring or a lever on the camera body. A mode selector switches between motorised and manual zoom operation.
The lens has a constant f/4 aperture throughout its range, weighs approximately 420g, and measures around 98.4mm in length. Its optical stabilisation corrects up to six stops of camera shake; combined with the body’s in-body IS, the figure reaches eight stops. At 50mm, the minimum focusing distance is 0.24m.
For single-operator use, the EOS R6V has a front-facing recording button and a tally lamp that lights up during recording. Remote control is available through Canon’s Camera Connect app or the new Bluetooth Wireless Remote Controller K544, which ships with a tripod grip that also functions as a selfie stick.
The camera supports Canon Log 2 and Log 3, custom LUT loading, a waveform monitor, four-channel audio recording, and a full-size HDMI Type-A output. The electronic shutter allows up to 40fps continuous stills shooting.
EOS R6V is priced at Rs 235,995; RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens costs Rs 142,995 and EOS R6V + RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens is priced at Rs 355,995.
