Bernardo Silva to Barcelona transfer depends on these conditions

Posted on

Bernardo Silva is ready to join FC Barcelona, but the club is making him wait. According to the latest reports, now that his contract with Manchester City has expired, the 31-year-old free agent has made it clear he wants to sign, yet Barcelona has laid down a strict set of conditions before any deal can be finalized.

Deco and president Joan Laporta see a huge opportunity in getting a world-class talent for free, especially since the player is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to fit into Barça’s wage structure. However, the club has other immediate priorities, and nothing moves forward without a definitive green light from Hansi Flick.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick is currently weighing the pros and cons because he looks at the squad and sees a massive traffic jam in midfield. With Gavi, Pedri, Fermín López, Dani Olmo, and Frenkie de Jong all fighting for minutes, the German manager is worried about bringing in another midfielder.

While everyone at the club agreed on signing Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, the consensus around Silva has not materialized yet. It’s said that his compatriot, Deco, is a booster for the signing. He has reportedly argued that Silva brings the exact kind of veteran leadership needed for a dressing room that lost heavyweights like Iñigo Martínez last year and Robert Lewandowski this year.

Comparisons have been made to Ilkay Gündogan or Martínez himself, free agent pickups that were relatively cheap and resulted in some good moments.

For the move to actually progress, Barcelona has to clear some space. Marc Casadó, who happens to share an agent with Silva in Jorge Mendes, is drawing interest from other clubs. Silva can also play on the wings, and that gives Barcelona some flexibility. Roony Bardghji and Marcus Rashford face uncertain futures. If they were to leave, that would make open up some space for Silva.

Silva wants his future resolved before the FIFA World Cup kicks off because playing the tournament without a contract is a risk – especially if he were to get injured. Barcelona does not have that same urgency. Other priorities take precedence right now, specifically the pursuit of a new number nine, with Julián Álvarez being the main target.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid are lurking and offering Silva better financial terms than Barcelona can manage. Atlético’s recent social media posts regarding Álvarez were laughed off by Barcelona insiders as a “temper tantrum” meant for fans, but it adds another layer of drama to the summer.
