Barcelona want to extend Marcus Rashford’s loan deal from Manchester United into a second season. And Rashford would prefer to remain with the Spanish giants, than return to Old Trafford in the summer.

It’s understood Barca have put the proposal to United, who are considering whether or not to agree to a second loan deal.

The clubs have agreed a £26m fee for Rashford, but Barca have made a failed bid to renegotiate the price. United have been holding out on the clause, which remains in place until June 15.

Rashford would like his future resolved before heading to the World Cup with England, provided he is included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

It’s understood both clubs will resume talks at the end of the season, unless a deal can be agreed before then.

One stumbling block could be the fact that Rashford’s wages will go back up to £315,000-a-week if United secure Champions League qualification.

Barca have been paying his contract in full, and United would want this to continue if another loan deal is struck. It seems likely Rashford will continue his career with Barca.

United are desperate to reduce the club’s wage bill this summer, with Casemiro and Jadon Sancho set to leave.

This will save United more than £500,000-a-week. And co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reluctant to have Rashford back on the books.

Rashford has been loving life in Barcelona, since joining them on-loan at the start of last season. He is said to have fallen in love with football again, rediscovered some of his best form and earned a recall to the England squad.

The 28-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists to help the Catalan outfit go six points clear of bitter rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
