Barcelona close the doors on academy graduate despite promising loan spell

The upcoming summer will see the return of multiple Barcelona players who are currently loaned out to various clubs across Europe this season.

While some of them could end up becoming part of the first team for next season, most are likely to leave one way or another. And unfortunately, it seems Ansu Fati falls into the second bracket.

Barcelona preparing for Fati’s exit

According to SPORT, there is complete unanimity within Barcelona’s sporting management, including sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick, as far as the future of Fati is concerned.

The club are clear that there will be no more chances for Ansu Fati at Camp Nou and the player will be sold this coming summer.

This is despite the 23-year-old enjoying a resurgent season at Monaco, where he has scored ten goals and rediscovered some of the form and enthusiasm that made him one of the most exciting prospects earlier in his career.

His market value has also recovered, rising from a low of €5 million to €15 million since January.

However, Barcelona are clear about his future. The club believe Fati’s current level does not meet the requirements to play at the Camp Nou, particularly in terms of physical explosiveness, consistency and impact in big matches.

Barcelona, therefore, are prioritising a permanent sale, with Monaco holding an €11 million purchase option.

This remains the most straightforward route, though there is no guarantee they will exercise it. Should a deal with the Ligue 1 side not materialise, Barcelona will actively seek a new club for the forward.

Fati holds a contract with Barcelona until June 2028, meaning the club will need to find a solution rather than simply letting him run down his deal.
