ATP Madrid Day 3 Predictions Including Sinner vs Bonzi
World No.1 Jannik Sinner will be in action alongside many big names as second-round matches commence on Day 3 at the ATP Mutua Madrid Open. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate, but which players will advance to the next round?
ATP Madrid Day 3 Predictions
Tallon Griekspoor vs Damir Dzumhur
Head-to-Head: first meeting
It’s been a disappointing start to the clay season for Tallon Griekspoor, as he is yet to register a win. The conditions here in Madrid should suit his game better and help with the serve and volley tactics. However, he still has to win a lot of points from the baseline, which is tougher to do when confidence is low. Damir Dzumhur is capable of great tennis on his day, and it was on full display against Mattia Bellucci. If he can bring that level in this match, he will have a definite chance to win.
Prediction: Dzumhur in 3
Alex Michelsen vs Jan-Lennard Struff
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Former finalist Jan-Lennard Struff snapped his five-match losing streak and defeated Alexandre Muller in straight sets in the first round. It was a much-needed win for Struff and will give him some confidence moving forward. Alex Michelsen is a better player than the German at this stage of their career, but he has never won a match in Madrid and struggles to impose his game on clay. I think Struff has a good chance to win this one.
Prediction: Struff in 3
Valentin Vacherot vs Emilio Nava
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Valentin Vacherot once again proved his caliber by making a brilliant run to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters. He made his Top 20 debut with this effort and does not have many points to defend in the upcoming months. The Monegasque is making his main draw debut here and might struggle to find his rhythm early on due to the different conditions. But once he finds his game, I like his chances in the altitude against Emilio Nava.
Prediction: Vacherot in 3
Jannik Sinner vs Benjamin Bonzi
Head-to-Head: Sinner 3-0 Bonzi
Jannik Sinner is aiming to make history as he looks to become the first player in the Open Era to win five consecutive Masters tournaments. In the absence of Carlos Alcaraz, he is the heavy favorite to achieve this feat. The Italian is on a 17-match win streak, and as good a ball striker as Benjamin Bonzi is, I don’t see him challenging Sinner on clay.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
