ATP Indian Wells Day 7 Predictions Including Sinner vs Fonseca

Posted on

The action in Indian Wells continues to come thick and fast with four more ATP matches on Tuesday. World No. 2 Jannik Sinner’s battle with Joao Fonseca, who always receives incredible support from the Brazilian fans, promises to be the highlight. We here at LWOT predict all four scheduled matches, but which players do you think will progress?

ATP Indian Wells Day 7 Predictions

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Arthur Fils

Head-to-head: Auger-Aliassime 1-0 Fils

Auger-Aliassime comes into this match battle-hardened from hard-fought triumphs over Gael Monfils, who is playing his final season as a professional, and Gabriel Diallo. Fils had easier victories against Dino Prizmic and Marton Fucsovics. Auger-Aliassime easily beat the Frenchman when they met a few weeks ago on the indoor hard courts in Montpellier. On a much slower outdoor court, I like Fils’s chances more. He is backed to win by getting enough of Auger-Aliassime’s serves into play.

Prediction: Fils in 3

Alexander Zverev vs Frances Tiafoe

Head-to-head: Zverev 8-1 Tiafoe

The head-to-head does not make pleasant reading for Tiafoe. His only previous success against Zverev was on home soil in Cincinnati over eight years ago. The three-time Grand Slam runner-up’s vulnerabilities were shown in a tight battle with Brandon Nakashima in the previous round. However, it is still tough to see Tiafoe winning. Zverev’s powerful serve and consistent groundstrokes are a bad matchup for him.

Prediction: Zverev in 2

Learner Tien vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Head-to-head: Davidovich Fokina 1-0 Tien

Both men had statement victories in the previous round. Tien beat Ben Shelton, who admittedly was not feeling 100%, while Davidovich Fokina overcame Jakub Mensik. I expect this to be a close match decided by fine margins. Both men usually attack, with Davidovich Fokina being particularly aggressive in his matches so far this week. Overall, I favor Tien slightly more to stay resilient in the important moments.

Prediction: Tien in 3

Jannik Sinner vs Joao Fonseca

Head-to-head: First meeting

Fonseca reminded fans of why there is so much hype around him with excellent performances against Karen Khachanov and Tommy Paul. Despite those results, I do not expect him to come near beating Sinner. Defeating the four-time Grand Slam champion, especially on a hard court, requires constant persistence and focus. Fonseca usually has a few spells in matches where his level dips, which he cannot afford.

Prediction: Sinner in 2
