Gabriel Jesus could yet be punished for lashing out at Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill following Arsenal’s win over the Spanish giants, putting his hopes of playing in the Champions League final at risk.

Footage from the Emirates Stadium has emerged of Pubill looking to impose upon the Gunners’ celebrations after the final whistle, which Jesus took issue with. The Brazilian was then spotted appearing to slap Pubill in the face.

Atletico star Pubill had already pushed a celebrating Viktor Gyokeres from behind. The Swedish forward had been arm-in-arm with Cristhian Mosquera and Jesus, who reacted furiously.

The recording shows Mosquera attempting to guide Pubill away, but Jesus’ action appeared more direct as he appeared to land a blow on the opposition. Myles Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice eventually cooled tempers and sent Pubill toward the tunnel.

football.london understands UEFA are currently reviewing the official reports from the semi-final clash and, following that, any incidents that are raised will see proceedings opened and possibly result in disciplinary action.

UEFA’s Disciplinary Panel will make their decisions based around a post-match report by a Match Delegate.

Jesus was an unused substitute on a night that saw a few fiery encounters. Diego Simeone had an intense interaction with Arsenal transfer chief Andrea Berta, who used to work alongside him in the Spanish capital.

Jesus has enjoyed a bit-part role in the Champions League this term, predominantly being used from the bench by Mikel Arteta. The former Manchester City ace has featured in each knockout round but now faces a nervous wait to see whether he will be available for the final in Budapest.

Arsenal will take to the Puskas Arena against the winner of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain following the end of the Premier League season. There are just over three weeks for the Gunners to wrap up their domestic campaign before their attention turns fully to the European final.

The fiery post-match clash on Tuesday did not dampen spirits too long as Arsenal’s players immersed themselves in jubilant celebrations with their supporters in north London.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, match-winner Bukayo Saka said: “Hey, you’re taking me away from the celebrations man! It’s so beautiful.

“What it means to us, what it means to the fans. We’re all so happy.

“This game is a high-pressure game, and it means a lot to both sides. We managed to manage [the game] well and take ourselves to the final, so we’re happy.”
