Arsenal discover £21m discount on midfielder as Mikel Arteta turns eye to wonderkid


Arsenal are looking to be active in the summer transfer window with central midfield one area they want to stregthen.

Arsenal could get a discount on Porto’s Victor Froholdt, with the club showing an interest in the 20-year-old. Reports a possible move for the midfielder emerged on Thursday.

The Times reports that the Gunners are one of several Premier League clubs to have cast an eye over the Denmark international this season. Newcastle United are also credited with an interest.

The report says that Arsenal have been informed that it would cost around £52 million to sign Froholdt in the summer. That’s a £21 million discount from the £73 million release clause in his contract, a figure Porto know they won’t reach.

Froholdt has impressed in his first season in Portugal after making the move from Copenhagen last summer. In the 2025/26 campaign, he has scored eight times and provided six assists in 50 appearances in all competitions so far.

Despite being just 20 years old, the midfielder, who often plays on the right of a three, also has 10 full caps for Denmark.

He, however, won’t be featuring in this summer’s World Cup, as Denmark lost to Czechia in the play-off final last month.

Arsenal have booked their place in the Champions League final and fans can support the team in Budapest with a flight and hotel deal from Booking.com.

As well as Arsenal and Newcastle, Danish outlet Bold reports that Liverpool are also showing an interest in the midfielder. He has a contract with Porto that runs until 2030.

Going into the summer transfer window, football.london understands that Mikel Arteta ’s side are targeting a new central midfielder and full-back for the new season.

But the priority is signing a new left-winger.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the standout option for the Gunners, but PSG have declared him not for sale. Arsenal will face the winger in the Champions League final in Budapest later this month.

Arsenal booked their place in the showpiece final with a 2-1 aggregate win over Atletico Madrid. PSG overcame Bayern Munich 5-6 on aggregate, with the two sides meeting on Saturday, 30 May (5pm kick-off).
