Apple TV has three fan-favorite sci-fi shows returning this summer

Posted on

Apple TV is assembling a packed summer lineup, with beloved comedies like Ted Lasso and Trying returning, plus several fan-favorite sci-fi series too. Here are three returning sci-fi series hitting Apple TV soon.

#1: Dark Matter season 2

Dark Matter is returning for a new season this summer, with leads Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, and more all returning.

The first season was based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Blake Crouch. Crouch was showrunner on the Apple TV adaptation, and the original story for season 2 is co-written by him too.

Dark Matter season 2 premieres Friday, August 28 with one episode, then weekly releases through October 30.

Here’s Apple’s official season 2 plot summary:

Season two picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, threatening to tear their fragile stability apart. Elsewhere, Amanda (Braga) and Ryan (Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With Blair (Brugel) determined to stop him, Leighton (Okeniyi) relentlessly chases his grand vision of creating a perfect world.

#2: Silo season 3

Silo is one of Apple TV’s biggest hits, and season 3 looks set to bring an exciting expansion outside the world of the silos.

The show is based on Hugh Howey’s hit trilogy of novels, and this new season will cover events from books 2 and 3—including a major flashback storyline that introduces all-new characters.

Silo season 3 arrives Friday, July 3 with its first episode, followed by weekly releases through September 4.

Here’s Apple’s preview of what’s coming in season 3:

Season three of “Silo” continues the saga of a dystopian society of 10,000 people living underground under mysterious circumstances, while revealing an origin story set centuries earlier. In the present, Juliette Nichols (Ferguson) survives her forced “cleaning” but returns with memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat. Meanwhile, in the “Before Times,” journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that pulls them into a chain of events with catastrophic, irreversible consequences.

#3: Sugar season 2

Sugar is a neo-noir detective series that doesn’t look like sci-fi on the surface. No spoilers, but anyone who watched season 1 will remember the big sci-fi twist that should very much impact season 2.

Collin Farrell stars in the series, which is based in LA and resembles old-school private detective mystery films.

Sugar season 2 premieres Friday, June 19 with one episode, followed by weekly releases through August 7.

Here’s Apple’s series summary:

“Sugar” is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture and television history: the private detective story. Season two ushers in the return of Los Angeles’ iconic private detective and film connoisseur, John Sugar. Emmy Award nominee Colin Farrell returns for a new case, tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as his search for his beloved missing sister continues. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?
