Apple appears to have quietly removed the entry-level 256GB variant of its Mac mini powered by the M4 chip from its official online store in India, following weeks of limited availability and delayed shipments. While the model had already been out of stock for some time, its complete disappearance from the listing has sparked speculation about whether the company has discontinued it or is preparing for an upcoming refresh.
The development comes amid broader supply challenges affecting several Mac products. Although Apple has not issued an official statement clarifying the reason behind the delisting, a combination of strong demand, production bottlenecks, and potential changes in the product cycle seem to be contributing factors.
A key driver behind the shortages appears to be unexpectedly high demand. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently acknowledged that both the Mac mini and Mac Studio have been witnessing “higher than expected demand.” He attributed this surge to increasing interest in artificial intelligence applications and agent-based tools, where compact yet powerful desktops like the Mac mini are gaining traction among developers and professionals.
According to a report by 9To5Mac, Cook pointed out that the growing adoption of agentic AI tools, including platforms like OpenClaw, is pushing demand beyond what Apple had initially projected. He also highlighted ongoing constraints in the supply chain, particularly in advanced chip manufacturing and memory components, which are likely to keep inventory tight in the near term.
The issue is not isolated to desktop systems. Apple is also experiencing supply pressure for its MacBook Neo lineup. Cook noted that demand for the more affordable laptop has been “off the charts,” indicating a broader trend of strong consumer and enterprise interest across Apple’s computing portfolio.
At the same time, Apple continues to face challenges tied to “advanced nodes” — a reference to cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing processes. Limitations in these areas can slow production cycles and restrict output, making it difficult for the company to meet surging global demand.
The impact of these constraints is visible across multiple Mac mini configurations. Several variants remain marked as “currently unavailable” on Apple’s store, while others come with extended delivery timelines stretching into weeks or even months. Third-party retailers, including major e-commerce platforms, are also facing similar shortages, with many models either sold out or heavily backordered.
These supply issues have been building since April, when shipping timelines began to slip for certain configurations. Higher-end models, particularly those with expanded memory, are among the hardest to secure, further underlining the extent of the component shortages.
Another possible explanation for the removal of the base model lies in Apple’s product strategy.
