Apple just released new AirPods Pro 3 firmware, more

Apple has just released new firmware for users of AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2. Here’s how you can install the latest update.

Latest AirPods firmware arrives, likely focused on bug fixes

Last week Apple released new firmware for AirPods Pro 3 and more, with the first official support for iOS 27’s new features. But the new firmware was limited to beta users.

Today, however, a new firmware update has been released for all users of AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2.

The latest AirPods firmware has build number 8B41.

Apple’s last public firmware build was 8B40, which released in April with bug fixes. However, that release was exclusive to AirPods Pro 3, while today’s new version is available for more devices.

No details have yet been revealed about what’s changed in the latest firmware. But Apple is expected to update this page in the next day or so with release notes.

For most firmware updates, the release notes simply say: “Bug fixes and other improvements.”

Since Apple isn’t expected to debut any big new AirPods features before iOS 27’s fall launch, bug fixes are likely the focus of today’s update too.

To install the new firmware, Apple says to do the following:

  1. Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, and that Bluetooth is on.
  2. Make sure that your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  3. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
  4. Connect your charging case to power.
  5. Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and keep your AirPods in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  6. Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
  7. Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  8. Check the firmware version again.

Are your AirPods running the latest firmware? Have you noticed any changes? Let us know in the comments.
