Anthropic’s Claude gets interactive visuals to enhance learning

Last year, Anthropic PBC released a temporary experience called “Imagine with Claude” that enabled its chatbot to create interactive visuals in real-time without any code, and now the same capability is coming to Claude’s chat conversations.

In a blog post today, the company said Claude’s new visualization capabilities are an “expansion” of Imagine with Claude that enables subscribers to create software on the fly, without seeing any code. The visualizations it creates will pop up in Claude’s responses when it thinks they might be helpful. They’re dynamic too, and can change and evolve depending on how the conversation progresses.

Anthropic showed off a few examples of how its visualizations might be helpful. They can make learning more immersive. For instance, if someone asks Claude a question about the periodic table, it will create an interactive diagram that allows them to click on each element and learn more about them. Alternatively, someone might ask about something more light-hearted, such as how to build a paper airplane, and Claude will quickly generate a diagram that demonstrates where to make the folds on a piece of paper.

Claude’s visualizations can serve more useful purposes too. For instance, a budding entrepreneur could ask the chatbot to create a chart visualizing the revenue from their business, based on data they’ve previously given it access to. “Claude builds them to aid users’ understanding as it’s discussing the topic at hand,” the company explained. “They appear in-line, rather than in a side panel, and they’re temporary – they change or disappear as the conversation evolves.”

According to Anthropic, the new feature will be switched on by default for all users, including those on its free plan. Claude will generate visuals whenever it deems them to be appropriate, or users can ask it to create one directly by saying something like “visualize how this might change over time.” Once Claude creates a visual, the user will be able to ask for tweaks, or more information about the graphic.
