It’s been a busy couple of days for Anne Hathaway. Flying to London for the European premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the star has gone from red carpet to radio appearance to screening—hitting an after-party gala for the forthcoming sequel, the BBC Radio 2 studio for a bit of promotion, and ultimately a special screening for her other new film, Mother Mary (which gets its wide release on April 24). Because why promote one project when you can do two?

Differentiating between the two films’ red carpets, Hathaway turned to something a bit darker than the “Runway” reds of DWP2. Working with stylist Erin Walsh, the actor selected an intricate black gown from Iris van Herpen’s Spring/Summer 2020 couture collection.

Titled Sensory Seas, the line explored the work of neuroanatomist Ramón y Cajal—best known for his renowned anatomical drawings that helped bring the previously unseen inner-workings of our central nervous systems to the human eye. With this collection, the eponymous designer was particularly inspired by the way her muse merged science and art, a concept intricately linked to the world of Iris van Herpen.

The specific dress pulled for Hathaway was the lineup’s first look, opening the Parisian show in January 2020. The black number was crafted from laser-cut leather pieces, linking together to create a high-neck corset top. Billowing pleated sleeves blended into a long, floor-length skirt, and matching cut-out heels peeked out from underneath the hem.

For jewelry, the star kept things simple with a pair of little hoops. As for her hair, it was pulled into a half up-half down ponytail.

Even with such a packed schedule, Hathaway hasn’t run out of ways to surprise us on the red carpet.
