Amy Schumer and husband, a Vineyard native, split after 7 years

Comedian Amy Schumer and her husband, Martha’s Vineyard native Chris Fischer, have called it quits after seven years of marriage.

Schumer announced the couple’s split on — where else — Instagram, writing (typos included): “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time. blah blah blah not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket and not because he’s a hot Janlmes beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”

Fischer, who grew up on his family’s farm in Chilmark, won the James Beard Foundation Book Award for American Cooking in 2016 for “The Beetlebung Farm Cookbook.”

Schumer and Fischer, who have a 6-year-old son, got hitched in 2018 in a seaside ceremony in Malibu attended by a few of their celebrity friends, including Larry David, Chelsea Handler, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jake Gyllenhaal, who became a close friend of Fischer’s while working summer jobs on the Vineyard as a teen.

“(Fischer) is a chef. What a good idea to marry a chef!,” Schumer said a few months later during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” “I never have [had to cook] and I never will now.”

The status of the couple’s marriage has been the subject of occasional tabloid speculation. In 2021, Fischer raised eyebrows when, on the occasion of his wife’s 40th birthday, he gave the “Life & Beth” star a birthday cake that read: “I’m leaving you. This was the only way I could think to do it.”

In the early 2000s, Fischer worked for Mario Batali at the chef’s York City restaurant Babbo. Later, in 2013, as the kitchen boss at the Beach Plum Inn on Martha’s Vineyard, Fischer cooked for President Obama and his wife Michelle. “We do exactly what we do for every other table,” he told the Globe at the time.
