Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 classic Muqaddar Ka Sikandar is known for its powerful story, emotional music and unforgettable drama but the film also hides a surprising casting twist that only a few people know.

While Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role, the film had several memorable supporting characters, one of which almost went to someone completely different.

The role of Amitabh’s loyal friend in the movie was originally offered to Asrani. Everything had been finalised, and he was fully prepared to join the shoot.

But on the day of filming, everything changed. Asrani got stuck on another movie set due to heavy rains and couldn’t reach Prakash Mehra’s location on time.

The production team suddenly found themselves in a tough spot. The entire unit was ready, the camera crew was set and Amitabh Bachchan was already on location waiting for the next shot.

Director Prakash Mehra needed a replacement immediately, someone who could step in without preparation and still manage to charm the audience alongside a star like Amitabh.

In that moment, Mehra spotted someone who worked behind the scenes. He made a spontaneous decision and asked him to take on the role.

It was none other than Prakash Mehra’s assistant director Ram Sethi. He certainly hadn’t expected to face the camera that day.

But with no option available, Sethi jumped in to save the day at the last minute and portrayed the character Pyarelal. It soon turned into something magical.

Once the camera rolled, he delivered an honest performance that impressed everyone on set. His chemistry with Amitabh Bachchan and the ease with which he played the friend’s role won praises.

Muqaddar Ka Sikandar boasts a stellar cast which includes Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rekha, Raakhee, Amjad Khan and Kader Khan.

The film was a superhit, earning Rs 8 crore on a Rs 1.5 crore budget. It is hailed as one of the best performances by Big B.
