Altoona tennis wins WIAA State Team Championship


MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) – After finishing runner-up in 2025, the Altoona boys tennis team returned to Madison and took the top spot as WIAA Division Two State Team champions.

Head Coach Greg Emerson’s Railroaders took down Madison Edgewood in the finals 5-2 for the programs first championship.

Altoona swept the singles matches, getting wins from Trenton Navarre, Carter Drescher, Jonah Oldenkamp and Connor Gower.

In doubles, Joseph Ricci and Owen Drescher were also victorious.

Teagan Bennett, Jaxton Semrow, Lucas Pederson and Isaiah Yi rounding out the Rails squad that was dominant all season long.

Earlier in the day, Altoona defeated Kolher 5-2 in the semifinals.

This was just the second time that Altoona had made it to team state, and add a gold trophy to last year’s silver trophy they took home.
