Barry Manilow performs during the 67th Grammy Awards Pre-Grammy Gala & Grammy Salute to Industry Icons, honoring Jody Gerson, at The Beverly Hilton on Feb. 1, 2025, in Beverly Hills, California.

Barry Manilow is recovering after catching a “cancerous spot” on his lung early.

The legendary crooner took to Instagram to reveal that a lengthy bout with bronchitis led to the discovery of the cancer spot.

“As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks,” he wrote in the Instagram statement. “Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

The 82-year-old singer, who recently wrapped up a set of charity Christmas concerts in Palm Desert, California, added that he will need to reschedule January arena concerts so that he can undergo surgery for the cancer spot’s removal, which his doctor believes has not spread.

“I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he added. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

In 2013, Manilow was forced to reschedule shows from his Broadway comeback, also due to bronchitis.

In 2011, he revealed he suffers from atrial fibrillation, or Afib, a type of arrhythmia or abnormal heartbeat, and has had the heart condition since at least the late ’90s or early 2000s.

Barry Manilow performs during the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center on Nov. 29, 2023, in New York City.
