Strike a pose! It’s the first Monday in May, and Hollywood is serving looks.
The 2026 Met Gala is here, bringing together rising stars and established icons under the roof of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Though it may be an honor to score an invite to the gala, this event — organized by Anna Wintour, the global chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue — is first and foremost a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute.
Last year, the event raised a whopping $31 million, the most in its history. The theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honored Black contributions to art and fashion. The dress code, “Tailored For You,” encouraged sharp, perfectly fitted outfits, and stars including Teyana Taylor, Diana Ross, Sabrina Carpenter and Demi Moore (who dressed as a literal tie!) turned heads. Meanwhile, Rihanna, whose partner A$AP Rocky cochaired the event, surprised everyone by revealing that she was pregnant with her third child.
This year, the theme for the annual exhibition, which is cochaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Wintour, is “Costume Art.” It’s inspired by the “centrality of the dressed body in the museum’s vast collections,” Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge, told Vogue.
The dress code this time around? “Fashion Is Art,” which can be interpreted however the guests wish. Will we see gowns in the colors of a Rothko? Body paint instead of actual fabric? Celebrities posing as living sculptures? Anything is possible at what is essentially Hollywood’s prom. (Let’s hope they do a better job than some people did when the theme was inspired by camp.)
