Chelsea have five names on their shortlist after Liam Rosenior’s departure at Chelsea, including a friend of former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, Matthias Jaissle.

Matthias Jaissle has emerged as a candidate to lead Chelsea’s long-term rebuild, with the 38-year-old German impressing the hierarchy through his work at Al-Ahli and previously RB Salzburg.

A disciple of the Ralf Rangnick school of coaching, Jaissle deploys a progressive and high-intensity tactical identity, often drawing comparisons to Julian Nagelsmann for his modern, data-driven approach.

His track record is already decorated, having secured a domestic double in Austria before guiding Al-Ahli to an AFC Champions League Elite title in 2025.

Currently sitting second in the Saudi Pro League, Jaissle could be open to a European return.

Chelsea keeping an eye on Matthias Jaissle

A report from TeamTALK states that Jaissle is among a number of names being assessed.

He has amassed an impressive 65.98% win percentage record, claiming successes in 159 of 241 matches thus far.

However, he’s not the only one, as Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, Cesc Fabregas and Julian Nagelsmann are also in the frame as of this moment.

It’s believed that Cesc Fabregas is happy at Como amid interest from Chelsea, which would mean that the Blues may have to look elsewhere.

Glasner and Iraola will be available in the summer, should Chelsea want Premier League quality.

Thomas Tuchel’s friend, Matthias Jaissle

Matthias Jaissle’s emergence on Chelsea’s shortlist is bolstered by his personal connection to one of the club’s most successful modern figures, Thomas Tuchel.

The pair share a long-standing friendship, with Jaissle previously describing the England manager as a significant personal influence on his own coaching principles.

They have a shared background in the high-pressing Red Bull and German schools of thought.
