Hyundai’s next-generation i20 has leaked online ahead of its official global debut, revealing a dramatically redesigned hatchback with crossover-inspired styling and a completely overhauled interior. The new model is expected to be officially unveiled in the coming days while launch is expected later this year. It will eventually replace the current-generation i20 sold in global markets.
The leaked images show both the exterior and interior in production-spec form, highlighting Hyundai’s latest design direction for its premium hatchback. Compared to the current i20, the new model appears more upright, rugged and technology-focused.

2027 i20 is More SUV-Like Than Before
One of the biggest talking points is the new design. 2027 Hyundai i20 adopts a much more crossover-inspired appearance with squared-off proportions, chunky black body cladding and a higher-riding stance. At the front, the hatchback gets slim headlamps integrated into a wide black fascia. The overall face looks cleaner and more minimalist than the current model.
The side profile reveals sharp body creases, blacked-out pillars and newly designed alloy wheels, while the rear features connected LED tail lamps stretching across the width of the vehicle. The overall silhouette is noticeably different from today’s i20, with Hyundai seemingly prioritizing a stronger road presence and SUV-like appeal.

All-New Interior With Panoramic Display
The cabin sees an even bigger transformation. Leaked images reveal a new dashboard layout centred around a large panoramic display that combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen within a single housing (like in new Venue). Physical controls have been retained for key functions, while the centre console adopts a cleaner and more modern design.

The steering wheel is also new and appears inspired by Hyundai’s latest global models. The door pads feature a fresh dual-tone treatment with circular speaker elements and redesigned grab handles. Hyundai has also reworked the overall dashboard architecture to create a more premium cabin experience.
Improved Practicality
Leaked images also provide a look at the luggage compartment. The boot area appears spacious and practical, while the rear seats continue with a split-folding arrangement to improve cargo flexibility. The taller roofline and boxier proportions could also translate into improved headroom and cabin space compared to the outgoing model.

Powertrain Options Expected
While Hyundai has not yet revealed technical specifications, 2027 Hyundai i20 is expected to continue with internal combustion engines in global markets. International versions could feature updated turbocharged petrol engines paired with mild-hybrid technology to meet stricter emission regulations.

Market-specific engine options will vary depending on regional requirements. Hyundai is expected to continue focusing on efficient petrol powertrains while improving overall refinement and fuel efficiency. In India it is likely to get the same 1.2 liter NA and 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine options.
