Skoda is preparing to give its Slavia sedan a mid-life update, and fresh spy shots have now surfaced revealing more details than before. Captured during testing in Maharashtra by automotive enthusiast Anvay Sheolikar, the latest test mule offers a clearer look at the exterior and even provides a glimpse of the cabin, although much of the dashboard remains covered under camouflage. The updated Slavia is expected to launch later this year.
Fresh Exterior Design
While camouflage continues to conceal key styling elements, the overall silhouette remains unchanged. The latest test mule features camouflage on the front and rear sections, indicating that these are the areas receiving the biggest visual updates.
At the front, the facelift is expected to receive a revised grille design inspired by the new Kushaq facelift. The bumper design could also be updated with sharper inserts and a more contemporary look. Headlamp internals are likely to be revised as well, potentially incorporating new LED signatures. There is also a possibility of connected LED signature element in the front, like seen in the Kushaq.
The side profile remains familiar with its coupe-like roofline and clean character lines. Interestingly, this prototype continues to run on steel wheels with temporary covers, suggesting testing is still underway. Production-spec models are expected to receive a fresh alloy wheel design.
At the rear, updates are expected to include redesigned tail lamps and a revised bumper. Similar to the Kushaq facelift, Skoda could introduce connected lighting elements or illuminated branding, although this remains unconfirmed at this stage.
Facelift Slavia Interiors
One of the key highlights of these latest spy shots is a partial glimpse of the interior. While the dashboard is wrapped under camouflage, the overall layout appears similar to the existing Slavia. The test vehicle seems to feature a free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit and a familiar steering wheel design.
Based on what Skoda introduced with the Kushaq facelift, the updated Slavia is expected to receive feature additions such as a larger infotainment system, updated digital instrument cluster, enhanced connected car technology and new upholstery options. Features such as ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, wireless smartphone connectivity, powered driver’s seat, automatic climate control and premium sound system are expected to continue.
New Automatic Gearbox Expected
Under the hood, Slavia facelift is expected to continue with the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. However, a major update could come in the form of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre TSI engine. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor currently develops 116 PS and 178 Nm, while the larger 1.5-litre TSI delivers 150 PS and 250 Nm. The latter is expected to continue with the 7-speed DSG gearbox.
The facelift arrives at an important time for the sedan segment. While SUVs continue to dominate buyer preferences, Slavia remains one of the stronger performers among premium midsize sedans. Together with Volkswagen Virtus, the MQB-A0-IN twins have consistently accounted for a significant share of the sedan segment.
The refreshed styling, upgraded cabin and additional features could help Slavia strengthen its position against rivals such as Hyundai Verna and Honda City. With Skoda also expanding its network and witnessing stronger volumes through products like Kylaq and Kushaq, the updated Slavia could play a crucial role in keeping the brand’s sedan portfolio relevant in an SUV-dominated market.
