Ustaad Bhagat Singh was initially planned as a Kushi extension

Pawan Kalyan and Harish Shankar’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh is set to hit the big screens on March 19. The film was initially titled Bhavadeeyudu Bhagat Singh, but the script later underwent major changes as fans demanded a mass entertainer.

Speaking in an interview, Harish Shankar revealed that the movie was originally conceived as an extension of Kushi. “In Kushi, two students who loved each other got separated due to ego clashes. A thought struck my mind. What if they get separated again after marrying in the climax? They later become lecturers and join the same college. I traveled with this idea for a year, but since our fans expected a massy film, we decided to put it aside,” said Harish Shankar.

He further added, “In Gabbar Singh, we showed Kalyan Garu in a cop uniform for nearly 70% of the runtime. Hence, I thought of presenting him in trendy outfits, and that’s how I began developing the script. I don’t think that story would work with another hero.”
