TVS launches Orbiter V1 electric scooter with 86 km range; price starts at ₹49,999

TVS Motor Company, on Thursday, launched the TVS Orbiter V1 electric scooter with a 1.8 kWh battery and introduced Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) across its electric vehicle portfolio.

The Orbiter V1 becomes the most accessible electric scooter in the company’s lineup. With the launch of the new model and the introduction of BaaS, TVS Motor’s EV scooter range now starts at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, inclusive of PM e-Drive).

Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company, said, “By separating the vehicle price from the battery usage cost, we are enabling greater flexibility while providing customers a clear understanding of the overall cost of ownership.”
The BaaS model lowers the upfront purchase price by allowing customers to subscribe to battery usage instead of paying the full battery cost upfront. Customers who prefer to buy the TVS Orbiter V1 without the BaaS model can purchase the scooter for ₹84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi, inclusive of PM e-Drive).

Battery, range and key features

The TVS Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery and is designed for everyday urban commuting. With this launch, the Orbiter lineup is available in two variants: the V1 with a 1.8 kWh battery and the V2 with a 3.1 kWh battery.

The scooter offers a certified IDC range of 86 km and can charge from 0 to 80% in about 2 hours and 20 minutes. It includes features such as a connected mobile app, a front LED headlamp with visor, and a coloured LCD cluster that displays incoming calls.

Design and connected technology

The scooter’s design focuses on daily usability. It has an 845 mm flat seat designed for rider and pillion comfort and a 290 mm straight-line footboard that provides legroom. A wide upright handlebar supports an ergonomic riding posture. The scooter also offers 34-litre under-seat storage that can hold two helmets.

The TVS Orbiter V1 supports connected and safety features, including alerts for crash, fall, anti-theft, geo-fencing and time-fencing. Riders can check battery charge and the odometer remotely through the mobile app. The system also provides turn-by-turn navigation with customizable settings. Calls, SMS and personalised alerts appear on the LCD digital cluster.

Additional rider support features include Hill Hold Assist, Cruise Control and Parking Assist. The scooter also supports over-the-air software updates and offers Eco and Power ride modes with regenerative braking.

Battery-As-A-Service ownership model

The BaaS model introduced by TVS Motor separates the vehicle price from the battery cost and allows customers to subscribe to battery usage. The company said this approach helps customers understand both the upfront purchase cost and the running cost of an electric vehicle.

Through BaaS, the company aims to offer more flexibility in EV ownership and expand access to a wider set of customers. Under this model, the scooter’s starting price is ₹49,999, while flexible payment plans begin at ₹862 per month. BaaS plans also include an extended warranty of up to five years or 70,000 km and allow unlimited monthly usage during the chosen BaaS tenure.
