Ranbir Kapoor needs no introduction. Born and brought up in the family of superstars, Ranbir is the son of late actor Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. He began his Bollywood journey with Saawariya in 2007, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Despite massive expectations, the film struggled at the box office. Made on an estimated budget of around ₹40 crore, the Bhansali directorial reportedly earned roughly ₹36–39 crore worldwide, making it a commercial disappointment.

Even though Saawariya failed commercially, Ranbir Kapoor’s performance received praise from critics. His vulnerable portrayal of a dreamy lover showed early signs of his acting potential. Many reviewers highlighted his screen presence and emotional depth, suggesting that despite the film’s failure, Bollywood had found a promising new star from the legendary Kapoor family.

Ranbir’s big breakthrough came with Wake Up Sid, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The coming-of-age drama resonated strongly with urban audiences and turned into a commercial success. The same year, Ranbir delivered another major hit with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani alongside Katrina Kaif. The romantic comedy became one of the highest-grossing films of 2009. Ranbir’s comic timing and charming screen presence proved that he could successfully carry mainstream entertainers.

Over the years, Ranbir cemented his reputation with powerful performances in films like Rockstar and Barfi!. In Rockstar, directed by Imtiaz Ali, he portrayed a tortured musician, while in Barfi! he played a hearing and speech impaired man, earning widespread acclaim for his versatility.

Ranbir Kapoor’s career reached another high with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, again directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film also starred Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the lead. The film became a blockbuster and one of the biggest hits of the year. Ranbir’s character Bunny, a travel-loving dreamer, connected strongly with young audiences.

After a few box-office setbacks, Ranbir staged a remarkable comeback with Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Playing actor Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir delivered a transformative performance. The film earned over ₹580 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.

Ranbir once again proved his box-office pull with Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The intense crime drama sparked debate but became a massive commercial success, crossing ₹900 crore globally and showcasing Ranbir in one of the darkest and most complex roles of his career.

Today, Ranbir Kapoor stands among Bollywood’s biggest stars and is preparing for one of the most ambitious projects of his career, Ramayana. The mythological epic is being produced by Namit Malhotra and will feature Ranbir portraying Lord Ram. The Nitesh Tiwari directorial will also star Sai Pallavi and Yash as Sita and Ravan, respectively.

Reportedly, the makers have already wrapped up the edit of the first installment of Ramayana. Ramayana will be released worldwide: Part 1 on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027. Besides Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War in his pipeline. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead.
