Shivam Dube’s Flight Plans Fell Through
According to The Indian Express, Shivam Dube initially attempted to book flight tickets for himself and his family after the World Cup victory. However, all available seats were taken due to high demand. With no flights available and a long drive ahead, he opted for a train journey, which, he felt, would be quicker than travelling by road.
Shivam Dube Tried to Stay Unnoticed at the Railway Station
Knowing that travelling as a celebrated cricketer could attract attention, Shivam Dube took deliberate steps to keep a low profile. He chose an early morning train departing at 5:10 am from Ahmedabad, hoping fewer people would be at the station. He also stayed inside the car until the last possible minute before boarding.
To further avoid being recognised, Shivam Dube wore a cap, face mask and a long-sleeved T-shirt, and spent much of the journey on the top berth of his compartment.
Shivam Dube’s Encounter with a Ticket Checker
Despite his efforts to remain unnoticed, there was a brief moment when Shivam Dube almost had his cover blown. A ticket checker looked up at the berth and said aloud, “Shivam Dube? Woh kaun hai, cricketer?” before looking confused.
Thinking quickly, Dube’s wife intervened, reassuring the checker: “No, no. Woh kahan se aayega?”, effectively convincing him that it wasn’t the cricketer. The interaction passed without incident.
Shivam Dube’s Arrival in Mumbai
The rest of the journey went smoothly for Shivam Dube and his companions. He eventually reached Mumbai without attracting the fanfare that might have occurred at an airport. Local police helped manage his exit from the station to ensure a calm and safe departure.
