Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has rated Sanju Samson and ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah received 9.5 on 10 in player ratings for the T20 World Cup, with star England allrounder Will Jacks receiving full marks for his performance.

Samson was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances in the second half of the campaign. Players from Pakistan, New Zealand, England and South Africa made up the rest of the nominees for the award.

Ponting named the top five performers of the tournament, with Jacks receiving a perfect 10 rating. Two Indian stars, Samson and Bumrah, took the next two spots with a joint near-perfect rating of 9.5.

Samson finished as India’s highest run-scorer and the third-highest overall in the tournament. Meanwhile, Bumrah ended as the joint-highest wicket-taker, highlighted by his four-wicket haul in the final against New Zealand.

Next were the openers, Tim Seifert and Sahibzada Farhan, who occupied the top two spots in the run charts. The former was awarded nine out of 10, while Farhan received a rating of 9.5.

Jacks enjoyed a stellar run in the T20 World Cup in his new role as a finisher and part-time spinner. He was named Player of the Match in four of the eight matches he played in the tournament.

Meanwhile, India became the first team to defend their T20 World Cup title, thrashing New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8, while also becoming the first team to win the tournament thrice.

This win is a powerful reflection of India’s sustained dominance in world cricket as well, the BCCI said in a statement.

Congratulating the team, BCCI president Mithun Manhas said, “Winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a moment of immense pride for the entire nation. To defend the title and achieve this feat on home soil makes it even more special.”
