Nicole Kidman breaks silence on Keith Urban divorce after year

Nicole Kidman has opened up about her “rough” divorce in a new interview with Variety – all while stripping down to her underwear for the racy shoot.

In a candid cover story, the Aussie actress answered truthfully when asked by the publication if she was “doing all right” since her split from country music star Keith Urban in September.

“I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” the 58-year-old replied.

“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that.”

“Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect,” added Kidman, who shares two children with Urban: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15.

“I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the reporter asked Kidman if 2026 would be her year, while joking that “every year is probably the year of Nicole Kidman” given her wildly successful career.

“Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” she revealed. “Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go.’ I have [the sequel to] Practical Magic with Sandy [Bullock]. I’ll be in full witch mode.”

Kidman’s split from Urban, also 58, made headlines last September with reports the pair had ended their 19-year marriage. While fans tried to wrap their head around the shock news, Kidman then quietly filed for divorce the very next day. No statement was made from either party at the time or in the months that followed.

The former couple finalised their divorce in January, with both agreeing to waive all rights to child and spousal support.

Kidman was also granted 306 days with her daughters, with Urban getting “every other weekend” with them.

While Kidman’s Variety interview marks the first time she directly addressed the break-up, the star did admit to struggling emotionally in the wake of her split.

In a conversation last November with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, Kidman was asked by the Wicked star how she was doing.

“Hanging in there,” she replied, before revealing that working on the Practical Magic sequel with Bullock and fellow actresses Joey King and Maisie Williams had been a saving grace.

“I have such a strong relationship with all those women, so I felt protected and loved,” Kidman said of their time on set. “It was just very, very safe.”
