It is the admission that every Chelsea supporter dreads; Moises Caicedo has officially labeled a former player from Stamford Bridge as his toughest-ever opponent.
Moises Caicedo is still only 24 years of age, yet he’s already achieved so much and has shown the quality of a player in their prime years at Chelsea.
Even Axel Disasi has spoken out at West Ham about just how underrated Caicedo is, despite everyone being well aware of his qualities.
It’s not often that anyone gets the better of Caicedo on a football pitch, but he’s not afraid to admit to struggling against certain rival players.
Former Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne came to mind for the Ecuadorian, which is bittersweet for supporters, who saw him leave the club before he had even kick-started his career.
Valentin Barco appears to be Liam Rosenior’s first Chelsea signing of the summer 👀

Moises Caicedo struggled playing against Kevin de Bruyne
Sky Sports Premier League‘s YouTube channel quizzed Moises Caicedo on everything Chelsea, and one of the questions was about the most difficult players he’s ever faced.
Who has been your toughest opponent in the Premier League so far?
“So far, I always say Kevin De Bruyne, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva. They were for me the two players that I suffer a lot against.”
Kevin De Bruyne’s Chelsea tenure was a brief what-if. He signed for £7m in 2012, but made just nine appearances and provided one assist. Frustrated by limited opportunities under Jose Mourinho, who prioritised experienced stars, the Belgian forced a £18m move to Wolfsburg in 2014.
And Chelsea even tried to get De Bruyne back after his departure from Man City.

Moises Caicedo and Kevin de Bruyne’s record against each other
Moises Caicedo’s admission that he suffers against Kevin De Bruyne is backed by a daunting head-to-head record. Since arriving in England, Caicedo has faced the Belgian six times across his spells at Brighton and Chelsea, managing only a single victory, a 2-1 win with Brighton in 2022.
In their more recent encounters, De Bruyne has largely dictated the terms; he was instrumental in City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in January 2025 and forced Caicedo into a defensive marathon during their 1-1 draw at the Etihad in January 2026.
Interestingly, Caicedo’s defensive workload spiked by nearly 30% in these games.
