‘MobLand’ Star Pierce Brosnan Open to a ‘Sincere Apology’ From Tom Hardy: ‘Not an Unresolvable Situation’

Posted on

Rumors began swirling that Tom Hardy had been axed from MobLand after Variety reported that he would not be returning for season 3 amid behind-the-scenes tension with showrunner Jez Butterworth. However, a source close to the Paramount+ series tells In Touch that it was costar Pierce Brosnan who made the ultimate call.

“The line Tom crossed was in keeping [the cast] waiting during actual production days,” reveals the source. “He had to know what he was doing even if he had no idea it would all come out in the press.”

Before news broke, a source told the Daily Mail that the “extremely professional” Helen Mirren got “increasingly frustrated” with the Oscar nominee’s “tone” on set as well as “his lateness.”

However, Mirren, 80, took to her Instagram on Thursday, May 28, and shared a photo of the actor, 48, alongside the message: “Love you now and always.”

Still, it wouldn’t be the first time Hardy’s tardiness made headlines.

According to Kyle Buchanan‘s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize Theron “felt threatened” and requested “protection” after getting into an argument with Hardy over him showing up to set three hours late, per Buzzfeed.

“This is not an unresolvable situation” though, In Touch‘s source notes.

“Tom knows his behavior annoyed people, and he should know that a humble apology and a promise to do better will go a long way,” says the source, not just with the studio and producers but also with costars Mirren and Brosnan, 73.

“For all his gravitas, Pierce is a gentle guy who can be reasoned with and who will take a sincere apology seriously,” adds the source. “Tom would be a fool to let the opportunity to repair things with Pierce slip through his fingers.”

Variety has since reported that Hardy was not fired from the show and that discussions regarding his possible return are underway.
