Tomorrow (27 Nov), Mahindra will unveil its new XEV 9S electric SUV at the much-anticipated “Scream Electric” event in Bengaluru.
This marks Mahindra’s first ground-up seven-seater EV, built on the scalable INGLO skateboard platform, shared with other upcoming models like the XEV 9e and BE 6.
From what’s evident so far, the XEV 9S is being positioned above the XEV 9e, as a larger and more premium offering, effectively an electric counterpart to the ICE XUV700 SUV.
Its three-row layout and claimed long range place it in a segment with virtually no direct competitors in India, setting it up as a key pillar in Mahindra’s EV expansion strategy.
Design and Exterior
Teasers have revealed a modern and clean EV design language.
The XEV 9S gets a closed-off front grille, accentuated by a sleek LED light bar that stretches across the face, flanked by sharp triangular LED projector headlamps.
A new illuminated butterfly logo on the nose signals Mahindra’s evolving EV identity.
From the side, the silhouette echoes the XUV700 but adds EV-specific touches like flush door handles, aero-tuned alloy wheels, and cleaner body lines.
The rear showcases connected LED taillights and a simplified, upright tailgate.
Space for magic. Space for everything.
A little music, a little movement, and a whole lot of chemistry. The Big New Electric XEV 9S becomes a part of your moment.

Mahindra has confirmed that the XEV 9S will offer a panoramic sunroof, likely a key differentiator over the XEV 9e, which has a fixed roof.
All in all, the styling clearly aims to establish the XEV 9S as more than just a rebodied ICE vehicle; it’s intended to feel like a true EV in form and function.
Mahindra XEV 9S Interior and Features

Inside, the XEV 9S looks set to impress with a tri-screen dashboard setup: a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger display. The cabin surfaces appear finished in premium soft-touch materials, complemented by a blacked-out modern theme.
Space for drama. Space for everything.
Whether it’s watching a binge-worthy moment or a nail-biting finish, every seat in the Big New Electric XEV 9S is the best seat.
Stay tuned for the XEV 9S — the authentic 7-seater SUV built on the INGLO platform.

Features expected include a Harman Kardon premium audio system, customizable ambient lighting, ventilated and powered front seats with memory settings, and multi-zone climate control.
The INGLO platform allows for a flat floor, enabling a sliding and reclining second row for better third-row access, a thoughtful addition for families.
Teasers suggest that this SUV will be packed with advanced features, including Level 2 ADAS capabilities, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, and more. The overall vibe is that of a plush, tech-laden lounge on wheels.
Highlight Features:
-
Triple digital displays (cluster + infotainment + passenger)
-
7-seat configuration with a flat floor and sliding second row
-
Panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, premium audio
-
Level 2 ADAS suite, powered functions, mood lighting
Battery, Powertrain and Range

The XEV 9S will be underpinned by Mahindra’s INGLO EV platform, which supports multiple battery and drivetrain configurations. It’s likely to offer two LFP battery packs: a smaller ~59 kWh unit and a larger ~79 kWh option.
Based on configurations already used in related models, the smaller pack should deliver around 230 PS and 380 Nm to the rear wheels with a claimed range close to 540–550 km.
The larger pack could push output to about 286 PS and extend the range to over 650 km. Both versions are expected to be rear-wheel drive, with fast DC charging capability baked in.
These figures, if accurate, would place the XEV 9S among the longest-range EVs currently available in India, especially in the family SUV segment.
Mahindra XEV 9S Pricing and Variants
Final pricing will be revealed at the launch, but early indications point to an entry price around ₹21–22 lakh (ex-showroom), with higher variants potentially going up to ₹35–40 lakh depending on battery size and features. That puts it firmly above the XEV 9e and into the premium family EV territory.
I expect Mahindra to offer at least two battery-pack variants and multiple trim levels to cater to different buyer segments, from tech-savvy early adopters to families seeking comfort and practicality.
My Take
From what I’ve seen and assessed so far, the Mahindra XEV 9S is shaping up to be a landmark model in India’s electric vehicle space.
It not only broadens Mahindra’s EV lineup but also pioneers a new segment, large, family-friendly electric SUVs with real road-trip potential.
The real win for Mahindra will be if they manage to offer long-range performance without overpricing, and if charging infrastructure continues to improve.
The XEV 9S appears to strike a compelling balance between space, tech, and everyday usability.
What excites me most is that this SUV doesn’t seem like an afterthought; it’s been designed with EV-first intent, and that reflects in its proportions, cabin layout, and features.
If the on-road performance and pricing are in sync with expectations, this could become the go-to electric SUV for Indian families.
I’ll be attending the official unveiling tomorrow and will share my first impressions right after. For now, all signs point to the XEV 9S being one of the most important EV launches we’ve seen in India in recent years.
