Kendall & Kylie Jenner Redefine ‘The Body’ at the Met Gala

Posted on

Kendall and Kylie Jenner arrived at the Met Gala with a shared visual cue—a nipple-accented bodice. To me, it reads as a clear nod to Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS nipple push-up bra, but it also connects directly to the night’s focus on the body as both subject and structure.

Second-Skin Classicism

Kendall Jenner’s collaboration with Zac Posen showcases how the model aligns with his signature romanticism. At its core, the look begins with Gap’s white T-shirt, reworked in liquid jersey and draped over a custom-moulded leather bodice. The construction is engineered as a second-skin form, built from the body outward so the figure becomes the foundation of the garment. That approach ties neatly into the theme, where the body isn’t concealed or decorated; it is the starting point. The reference to classical “wet drapery” reinforces this, with fabric used to trace and emphasise the form beneath.

Mid-Reveal Couture

Kylie Jenner wore custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture by Daniel Roseberry, delivering a look that plays with the idea of dressing in progress. The butter duchesse satin embroidered ball gown sits low on the hips, as if mid-unravelling, exposing a sienna-toned rigid bustier. Here, the body is framed rather than covered, with the corsetry acting almost as an architectural outline. That sense of interruption – of a garment caught between states – mirrors the theme’s interest in construction, exposure, and transformation. The contrast between the structured bodice and the volume of the skirt keeps the focus on the body as a focal point rather than an afterthought. Schiaparelli Couture jewels completed her look.

Both looks hinge on the same idea – the body as the anchor- but are interpreted differently. Kendall’s is fluid and sculptural, drawing on classical references, while Kylie’s is sharper, built on contrast and the interplay between what is revealed and what is held back. I have to say, I adore both looks, especially as they suit their respective personas.
