Google Ads VP Dan Taylor: AI is changing how people search and helping businesses reach more customers


Google Ads Vice President Dan Taylor said AI is changing how people search online and creating new opportunities for businesses to reach customers. Speaking at a media roundtable, Taylor said AI tools are helping expand the number of searches on Google and making ads more relevant to users. He said consumers are now asking longer and more detailed questions instead of using simple keywords. According to Google, the company now handles more than five trillion searches each year. During the interaction, Taylor added that AI technologies such as Gemini and AI-powered search features are helping businesses connect with users during their search journey.

AI changing the way people search: Google Ads VP

Google Ads VP Dan Taylor said people are moving toward more conversational search queries instead of short keywords. “People are asking complex, detailed, and multimodal questions. They’re moving away from keywords to a more conversational and intuitive search experience,” he said.He also said visual search is growing quickly. Google Lens now records more than 25 billion searches every month, and one in five of those searches has commercial intent.According to Google, AI Overviews — which provide AI-generated summaries with links for more information — now have more than two billion monthly users across over 200 countries and territories and support 40 languages.“In 2024, we started rolling out ads above, below and within AI Overviews. In India, ads in AI Overviews are available in English on mobile and desktop devices,” Taylor said.

Gemini improving ad relevance: Google Ads VP

Dan Taylor said Google’s Gemini AI model is helping improve the quality of ads by understanding user intent more accurately. “Our goal is to match exactly what a user wants with what a business offers, and Gemini makes ads significantly more relevant,” he said.According to Google data, the use of Gemini in the company’s advertising systems has reduced the rate of irrelevant ads by about 40%.Google said AI-powered ad tools such as AI Max for Search and Performance Max help businesses reach users across different Google platforms. These systems analyze advertiser inputs such as landing pages and campaign goals to match ads with relevant searches.Taylor said AI Max for Search is currently the fastest-growing AI-powered Search ads product and helps advertisers reach billions of new searches.Companies in India have also used the system. PolicyBazaar reported a 28% increase in health insurance sales and a 23% reduction in cost per sale after using AI Max for Search. Other companies, including OYO, have also used Google’s Performance Max campaign tools to improve ad performance.Taylor said AI is also helping marketers create ads faster. “Marketers are using AI tools to produce compelling and creative ads at tremendous scale,” he said.Google said image and video creation tools in Google Ads Studio are now powered by Nano Banana Pro and Veo 3. According to company data, the number of Gemini-generated ad assets created by advertisers increased three times in 2025.AI agents in advertising and shoppingTaylor said AI agents are expected to play a larger role in advertising and online shopping in the future.“Agentic tools help businesses drive better results, with less effort, while helping people get stuff done,” he said.Google has already launched AI tools such as Ads Advisor and Analytics Advisor to help businesses manage advertising campaigns. The company is also testing new systems that allow AI agents to assist users in purchasing products online.
