Ghost Of Yotei Legends Will Add Online Coin-Flicking Action On March 10

One of the best parts of Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai RPG Ghost of Yotei is a wonderfully made coin-flicking mini-game that was loved by fans so much that many wanted it broken out into its own game or mobile app. That’s not happening yet, but it is going to be included in Yotei’s online mode launching on Tuesday.

Ghost of Yotei Legends, the free multiplayer game mode being added to last year’s PS5 exclusive, will feature plenty of big fights, raids, character classes, and all that sort of stuff you’d expect to find in an online action RPG experience. If you played Ghost of Tsushima Legends, a lot of this will be familiar. But the more exciting news is that Zeni Hajiki, that awesome coin-flicking table game from Yotei‘s campaign, will be included in the online mode’s new mini-open-world lobby, letting players finally challenge their friends.

Ghost of Tsushima [Legends’] lobby was a flat 2D menu,” said Legends lead designer Darren Bridges in an interview with the Official PlayStation Blog. “Our goal in designing [this mode’s] lobby was to give you something you can do while you wait for friends to join. You can go look at the feats you’ve completed and unlock cosmetics. You can tweak your build, adjust your tech tree. But the lobby also has some light PvP elements, such as Zeni Hajiki, the coin-flicking game that was in the single-player campaign. We heard players wishing they could play that against friends (so did our QA team), so we did!

Zeni Hajiki involves players trying to quickly and efficiently flick coins off a table using other coins, and it is so damn good. In fact, it’s so good that I’m currently avoiding playing it anymore as I try to finish up Ghost of Yotei. If I stopped at every inn and barhouse in the game to play it, I’d never get around to finishing up the rest of Yotei. But if I’m waiting for a friend to get on and play Legends, well, what else should I do? Seems fine to flick coins at that point. That’s my excuse at least.

Another great part of Ghost of Yotei that is returning in Legends is the bamboo strike minigame. According to Bridges, there will even be a “mini leaderboard” that you and your friends can use to see who is better.

“There’s a training area if you want to get good at perfect parries in a low-pressure environment, or to just test your build,” explained Bridges. “So it’s just meant to be a place that, while you’re waiting or you’re in between rounds, we give you interesting things to do.”

Ghost of Yotei Legends launches on March 10 on PS5. It is a free update for all owners of the main game.
