Vishwak Sen’s Funky starring Vishwak Sen and directed by Anudeep has turned out to be a major disappointment both in theatres and on OTT. The film released with decent expectations because Anudeep earlier delivered the blockbuster Jathi Ratnalu, and many believed Funky might recreate that magic. However, its fate at the box office was completely different.
Right from the first day, the film opened to very poor collections and negative public response. Instead of picking up after release, the movie failed to show any improvement in the following days. Because of this weak response, the theatrical run ended quickly, and the film turned out to be a box office washout.

Even before the theatrical release, Netflix had acquired the digital streaming rights for a good price. After almost a month in theatres, the film was finally released on the platform. Normally, some films recover their reputation with better response on OTT, but that did not happen in this case.
OTT viewers have also responded negatively to the film. Many viewers said that the story moves in a confusing and directionless way, making it difficult to stay engaged. Some people commented that although a few comedy scenes were ok here and there, the overall film failed to entertain. A section of the audience even compared it unfavorably with Anudeep’s earlier flop film Prince, saying that at least that movie was watchable in parts. Many found Prince much better than Funky.
Another major backlash from OTT viewers is the editing and screenplay structure. Many people on social media said the scenes appear disconnected and poorly stitched together, making the film feel amateurish. Because of this, the movie has been facing heavy trolling on social media.
Overall, Funky failed to attract audiences in theatres and is now receiving brutal trolls after its OTT release. Anudeep now needs a miracle even for a decent comeback or else he will remain a one-film wonder.
