Framework first introduced Intel Core Ultra processors into its configurable laptops nearly two years ago. And in 2026, one of the most popular models is the Framework Laptop 13 Pro, featuring up to Core Ultra X9 388H and 64GB of RAM configs. It can also be configured to ship with Windows 11 – you have the choice of Home or Pro, for an additional $139 and $199, respectively.

Customers can go for a ‘DIY Edition’ that ships with either Windows or no operating system at all, or the ‘Pre-built’ model that gives you a choice between Windows 11 Pro and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS; the latter comes at no extra cost, since it’s open-source. There’s also a non-Pro model, though the Intel model is currently limited to older Core Ultra Series 1 chips.

Ubuntu laptops are selling better than Windows models

In a post on X, Framework revealed that the Laptop 13 Pro is “selling far above” its forecast, initially revealing that its first six batches (the first of which will start shipping in June) have been sold out. Soon after posting that, the company then clarified that it is “onto Batch 8” – in other words, the first seven batches have been snatched up.

Framework calls the Laptop 13 Pro “A laptop for Linux” in its official marketing, adding that it “is designed and tested for Linux compatibility from the ground up”. The $139+ saving is a nice bonus for Linux users, and the tinker culture is definitely present across both Linux & Framework fanbases. Framework laptops are well known for offering industry-leading repairability and modularity, allowing owners to easily upgrade parts further down the road.

While the DIY Edition of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro can be configured up to the Core Ultra X9 388H, the pre-built model is fitted with an Ultra X7 358H, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. It also offers a 74Wh battery and 2.8K touchscreen display.

It’s worth noting that the Core Ultra X9 388H config for DIY builders is already out of stock, as its limited batch quickly sold out ahead of shipping in July. Aside from Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake), the Frame Laptop 13 series is also available with AMD Ryzen AI 300 series chips, including the flagship Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 mobile processor.
