Chelsea are expected to orchestrate another flurry of activity this summer, both in and out, as Todd Boehly approaches his fifth summer as owner.
Even last summer, Boehly sanctioned spending of almost £300m on 10 new signings, including Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jorrel Hato and Alejandro Garnacho. Already, Chelsea have made new additions.
Emanuel Emegha will join Chelsea this summer from Strasbourg, likely after the World Cup where he is expected to be called up by The Netherlands if he can get fit. Geovany Quenda will join from Sporting.
After Christopher Nkunku, Jamie Gittens and Timo Werner, how do you feel about Chelsea signing players from Germany? 🇩🇪
But Chelsea are expected to add more in due course, with priorities expected to be improving the core of the team and the experience. Indeed, it has been clear under Liam Rosenior that Chelsea lack experience.
Fabrizio Romano confident Chelsea will sign a new midfielder
One area of the side that requires strengthening is in the middle of the park, and finding a first-choice partner alongside Moises Caicedo. Reece James is exceptional, but many feel he is better as a right-back.

That leaves Chelsea with the long-term, yet returning, absentees of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo. There is also Brazil star Andrey Santos, who has been linked with a possible move to Man United this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano on his latest podcast, that Chelsea will definitely sign a midfielder before the start of the 2026-27 season: “You see, City will sign a midfielder, United will sign one, maybe two.
“Arsenal will sign a midfielder, Chelsea will sign a midfielder, we’ll see what happens with all the other clubs, from PSG to Bayern, in Spain, in short, there will be a lot of movement among midfielders.”
If Chelsea do sign a midfielder, one or two need to be sold
While Chelsea do have options in midfield, they are not good enough to consistently start alongside Caicedo if Enzo Fernandez is to be pushed further forward. Valentin Barco has been strongly linked.
Valentin Barco appears to be Liam Rosenior’s first Chelsea signing of the summer 👀
Thoughts?
Essugo and Lavia’s future will certainly come under the microscope if a new signing is made in the middle of the park. Neither have been able to remain injury free and impress since joining the London club.
But with Man United showing interest in Santos, it might be that the Brazilian has to move to pastures new to be given the platform to realise his potential. That is, even if Rosenior rates Santos very highly.
