The Windows 11 26H2 version is expected to be the next major feature update for the Windows 11 operating system. The current 25H2 version is based on the same Germanium platform first introduced with 24H2. User phantomofearth, @phantomofearth on X, a popular Windows enthusiast and reliable leaker, found traces of the 26H2 version in the Enablement KB26300 (EKB) update. It is apparently based on the Germanium platform as well.

Therefore, 26H2 could be another enablement package like the 25H2 update. These enablement packages do not bring new features. They only enable previously designed features already present in the current 25H2 build, hence the name Enablement.

With that said, here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming big feature update for Windows 11.

Expected features

Since the 26H2 is expected to be an enablement package, you won’t see any dramatic new features. The new features and changes could be much more subtle, designed to enhance the user experience.

Here are some of the features expected with 26H2 based on the Windows Insider Beta channel builds:

  • More AI features in paint, Notepad, and even the Narrator apps.
  • Enhanced dark mode in many File Explorer dialog boxes.
  • A modern Run dialogue box.
  • An AI-powered search is in the works, which could arrive just in time for the 26H2 update.
  • The Xbox Full Screen experience feature is in the works, which can already be found on the ROG Xbox Ally.
  • General stability, optimizations, and File Explorer fixes.

Version 26H2 is also expected to change the Windows 11 build number, making it part of the 26300 branch.

Possible platform

The Windows 11 26H2 version is expected to be on the same Germanium platform as 25H2 and 24H2. Note that while the Windows 11 26H1 update is designed on the Bromine platform, Windows 11 26H2 is expected to stay on the Germanium platform for a while.

Potential release window

Version 24H2 was released in early October 2024, and version 25H2 was launched in late September 2025. Similarly, version 25H2 is expected to come out in late 2026. Microsoft usually targets September/October for such major releases. Based on that, one can expect the Windows 11 26H2 version to arrive in September/October 2026.
