Elton John is doing well, according to his husband David Furnish.

Speaking with Variety in an article published on March 10 ahead of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday, March 15, Furnish gave a promising health update for the “Crocodile Rock” singer.

“He’s great. He’s battling on. He’s keeping busy and moving forward,” Furnish said of John. “He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons. That’s why he came off the road. We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together, and that’s everything for us.” Furnish and John share sons Zachary, 15 and Elijah, 13.

The EGOT winner has been open about his health in recent years. At the New York Film Festival premiere of the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, he listed his ailments. “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left,” he told the audience at the time, per PEOPLE.

“I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip,” he shared. “But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.”

Weeks later, in November 2024, John revealed that he lost vision in his right eye during an appearance on Good Morning America. “I unfortunately lost my eye sight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,” he admitted. “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye’s not the greatest.”

He continued, “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”

Years before, John suffered a fall in 2021, which led him to postponing several dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. “Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving,” he said at the time via social media.

The “Rocket Man” singer added that he was “undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.”

Furnish also spoke about the upcoming Oscars watch party, which will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka. Lola Young is slated to perform at the event whose guest list includes Dua Lipa, Donatella Versace, Keke Palmer, Quinta Brunson, Jon Batiste, Nikki Glaser, Adam Lambert, Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter, among others.

“I would hope that we could raise north of $9 million,” Furnish said of the fundraising event. “Last year was very challenging following the fires in Los Angeles. There were a lot of very necessary philanthropic asks for Southern California as a result of the fires. But our ticket sales are really strong this year. We’ve got a fantastic auction, and we’ve got Neil and David joining us as co-hosts.”

He added: “We’re asking people to be generous.”
