Before becoming a popular on-screen romantic hero, R Madhavan had already found love in real life with Sarita Birje. Their love story began long before fame entered his life.
Madhavan was teaching public speaking and communication skills when he met Sarita during one of his sessions in Kolhapur. “I was teaching a personality development class in Kolhapur when I met Sarita. She was aspiring for a job in an airline and attended my classes. When she finally bagged the cat, she thought it was in part due to my classes and took me to a thank-you dinner. That’s how it started,” he once told Times Of India.
The two did not begin dating while she was his student. Their relationship began after Sarita completed the course and went on to become an air hostess. Grateful for his guidance, she invited him to dinner as a thank-you gesture. Recalling the moment, the actor shared that they met for dinner at a hotel in Kolhapur.
That dinner marked the beginning of a deeper connection between the two. Their bond gradually grew stronger and eventually turned into a relationship.
The couple dated for around eight years before deciding to get married. Their relationship remained away from the spotlight during this period.
In 1999, Madhavan and Sarita tied the knot in a traditional Tamil wedding in Chennai, attended by close family and friends. Six years after tying the knot, the couple embraced parenthood. They welcomed their son, Vedaant, in 2005, marking a new chapter in their journey together.
As Madhavan’s film career took off, Sarita remained a constant presence in his life. The couple built their relationship on trust and mutual understanding. The couple recently celebrated 27 years of marriage, proving that their love story has stood the test of time.
