Chelsea drawn against Port Vale in FA Cup quarterfinals

Posted on

The football gods have smiled upon Chelsea this evening, with the Blues getting drawn against Port Vale in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Port Vale are the only third division side left in the competition, and we don’t even have to travel, with the match set to be played at Stamford Bridge, the weekend of April 4-5. The Valiants sit rock bottom of the third division at the moment, and look set to go straight back down after earning promotion from League Two last season.

So, having avoided any of the big hitters in this round, and barring any serious Magic of the Cup nonsense, we should be able to sashay into the final four of the competition. Don’t mess it up now!

It should be an historic occasion either way: a matchup nearly 100 years in the making. The last time we played them was in 1928, when both sides were in the second division. All told, this will be the 15th meeting between the two sides, which includes a couple games from our inaugural season back in 1905-06.

The FA Cup quarterfinal draw, in full, is as follows:

Southampton vs. Arsenal
CHELSEA vs. Port Vale
Manchester City vs. Liverpool
West Ham OR Brentford vs. Leeds United
