There are few tournaments on the ATP Tour that reveal as much about a player’s authority as the Miami Open presented by Itau.

One remarkable pattern stands out at the ATP Masters 1000 event in South Florida: every active member of the ATP No. 1 Club has also conquered Miami. From Novak Djokovic’s record six titles to the breakthroughs of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner, the tournament has mirrored the shifting balance of power at the top of the men’s game.

As well as the four active No. 1 players, who are spotlighted below, fellow ATP No. 1 Club members Roger Federer (4 titles), Andy Murray (2), Andy Roddick (2), Andre Agassi (6), Pete Sampras (3), Jim Courier (1), Ivan Lendl (2) and Mats Wilander (1) have all also triumphed in Miami.

Novak Djokovic: Miami’s Modern Master
Not many tournaments chart Djokovic’s longevity and dominance quite like Miami. The Serbian’s six titles — tying Andre Agassi for the most in tournament history — span nearly a decade, beginning with his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown in 2007, followed by an extraordinary run of five titles between 2011 and 2016.

Four of those trophies came during seasons in which Djokovic finished as World No. 1, and four came when completing the historic ‘Sunshine Double’ of winning Indian Wells and Miami in the same year. He also reached the final in 2009 and 2025, when he lost to Andy Murray and Jakub Mensik, respectively, and owns a 49-8 tournament record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

Carlos Alcaraz: Statement of Arrival
Alcaraz’s triumph in 2022 marked a defining chapter in the Spaniard’s rapid ascent. The then-18-year-old produced an electric run through the draw and defeated Casper Ruud in the final to become the youngest men’s singles champion in tournament history, breaking the record previously set by Djokovic in 2007.

The title — his first at that level — formed part of a sequence during which Alcaraz would become the youngest World No. 1 in history after the US Open, where he earned his third straight Lexus ATP Head2Head victory over Ruud in the final.

Daniil Medvedev: A Blistering Spring Surge
Medvedev’s Miami title in 2023 capped one of the most dominant runs of his career. A runner-up finish at Indian Wells brought a brief pause to his momentum after consecutive titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai, but he wasted little time reasserting himself by lifting the trophy in South Florida — his fourth title in a six-week span.

In the final, Medvedev handed Jannik Sinner a second defeat in a Miami championship match, producing a performance that reflected the resilience and consistency that defined his early-season surge. By year’s end, the Miami title stood out as a cornerstone of a five-trophy campaign, one of the most successful seasons of his career.

Jannik Sinner: A New Standard
Persistence paid off in Miami in 2024 for Sinner, who broke through after two previous final defeats at the tournament. After losses to Hubert Hurkacz in 2021 and Medvedev in 2023, the Italian delivered a commanding response, dropping just one set en route to the title.

Already a major champion following his Australian Open triumph earlier in the season, Sinner arrived in Miami with growing belief and his triumph proved to be a springboard. He went on to claim eight titles in 2024 — including both hard-court majors and the Nitto ATP Finals — and became the first Italian to rise to No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
