Liverpool manager Arne Slot spent his press conference defending English clubs after this week’s Champions League matches, including Chelsea’s loss to PSG.

Chelsea‘s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain caught the attention of many. It was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch in the Champions League, even if the Blues did concede five.

Enzo Fernandez was the pick of the bunch for Chelsea, scoring and assisting both goals, but there were some concerning moments still, including Filip Jorgensen’s error.

However, it’s not over yet. It will take a perfect performance from Liam Rosenior’s side to turn things around, especially after seeing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s display.

Even Liverpool boss Arne Slot had people telling him that Chelsea were unlucky to lose 5-2.

Chelsea were unlucky to lose 5-2 to Paris Saint-Germain

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham this weekend, Arne Slot came to the defence of English clubs, including Chelsea.

“The only one I didn’t see was Paris Saint-Germain against Chelsea, but people told me that Chelsea was very involved in that game and didn’t deserve to lose 5-2.

“So yeah, jumping to conclusions about one game is usually not what I would do.”

Micah Richards is still putting his trust in Liam Rosenior after the game and agrees with Arne Slot that Chelsea were actually tactically sound against PSG.

A breakdown of the PSG vs Chelsea stats

The 5-2 scoreline is a classic example of stat-padding in the final 15 minutes, as the numbers suggest Chelsea were actually the more productive side for the vast majority of the match.

According to Sofascore, Chelsea finished with a higher Expected Goals (xG) of 1.57 compared to PSG’s 0.90. This indicates that the Blues created higher-quality chances but were undone by a combination of world-class finishing from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and a catastrophic individual collapse.

For 74 minutes, the match was a statistical dead heat. Both teams recorded 9 total shots, but Chelsea managed four on target while twice fighting back to level the score.
