Adobe is expanding AI capabilities in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Firefly, adding conversational editing features, generative tools, and multi-model AI support to help creators streamline workflows and experiment more easily with visual content creation.
Software giant Adobe has unveiled a new set of artificial intelligence features designed to enhance its creative software ecosystem. The latest update expands the use of conversational AI across several products, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Express, enabling users to complete complex creative tasks more quickly and intuitively.
The company said the new tools are part of its broader strategy to integrate AI into the everyday workflows of designers, marketers, students, and content creators. The AI Assistant, which is now being introduced across multiple Adobe platforms, allows users to interact with creative tools through natural language prompts. It also integrates with widely used platforms such as ChatGPT and Microsoft 365 Copilot, enabling a more connected and collaborative creative environment.
AI assistant enhances editing in Photoshop
Adobe has also launched a public beta of the AI Assistant for the web and mobile versions of Photoshop. The feature allows users to perform image edits simply by describing the changes they want. For instance, users can request adjustments such as removing unwanted elements, modifying backgrounds, refining lighting conditions, or altering colours within an image.
The assistant can either apply the edits automatically or guide users through a step-by-step editing process. This approach is intended to help both experienced designers and beginners learn creative techniques while working.
A new feature called AI Markup has also been introduced in the Photoshop web beta. The tool allows users to draw directly on an image to highlight specific areas and then provide prompts for modifications. For example, a user can mark a section of a photo and instruct the AI to insert elements such as landscapes or decorative objects.
Firefly adds advanced generative tools
Alongside updates to Photoshop, Adobe has also enhanced its creative AI platform, Adobe Firefly. The Firefly Image Editor now includes several new generative features aimed at providing more control over AI-driven image creation and editing.
Among the additions are tools such as Generative Fill for inserting or replacing objects, Generative Remove for eliminating unwanted elements, and Generative Expand to adjust image size and proportions. Other features include Generative Upscale for improving image resolution and a background removal tool that automatically isolates subjects.
The updated Firefly platform also supports a wide range of AI models, including Adobe’s own commercially safe models as well as technologies from companies such as OpenAI, Runway, and Google.
Adobe said these new capabilities are designed to help creators move from concept to finished content more efficiently while maintaining creative flexibility. The company has made the latest Firefly image editing features available globally, while AI Assistant capabilities in Photoshop web and mobile are currently being rolled out in beta.
