Framework Laptop 13 Pro To Begin Shipping In July

Framework Computer began informing those that pre-ordered the new Framework Laptop 13 Pro that it will begin shipping in July rather than their original June target. The setback is coming to address two issues that came up in their testing process that delayed the start of mass production.

Back in April the Framework Laptop 13 Pro was announced as a ground-up redesign to their wildly popular Framework Laptop 13. This new version has a larger battery, LPCAMM2 memory and powered by Intel Core Series 3 Ultra Panther Lake. Plus the chassis is now a full-CNC aluminum chassis, improved display, haptics touchpad, and other enhancements with this new design.

They had hoped to begin shipping the initial pre-orders by the end of June, but they began informing pre-order customers a small setback to shipping by a few weeks. They now aim to begin shipping the first batch products by late July. In turn, the July batch pre-orders will likely shift to August and the possibility of late August batches shifting to September. But by September they hope to be caught up with their original pre-order batching targets.

One of the issues leading to the delay were spurious bugs in some of their haptic touchpads. They have root caused that electrical issue leading to a new PCB spin as well as a firmware update to mitigate the issue in the original PCB design. They also uncovered a display issue where one panel hadn’t initialized properly, but they worked through the issue with the manufacturer on updated display firmware to ensure that issue doesn’t occur on customer hardware. Not bad for a few week delay for ensuring the hardware shipping meets their quality expectations and the transparency they provided into the issues.
