Emily Blunt says she’s “terrified” of artificial intelligence and opted not to rely on it during a pivotal sequence in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film “Disclosure Day.”
Appearing on The Hot Ones podcast, the British actress spoke about a key scene in the film in which her character, a Kansas City TV meteorologist, speaks in a non-human language while taping a weather segment live on air.
The scene requires Blunt to speak unusual-sounding gibberish to the camera for several minutes, but this gibberish also had to sound like a functional language as opposed to simply making a bunch of noises.
Asked about how they came up with the scene, AI was seemingly suggested as an option which she rejected. Instead, using some strategically placed mics, they captured it oganically:
“It’s a four-minute oner that we shot that leads up to that moment where she’s gradually sort of disintegrating. There’s various ways you could do it. You could go the AI route, which I’m a bit terrified of. I thought I could make some really strange sounds.
I said maybe I could come in and we’ll just do a range of weird sounds. And it’s what we did. I did sort of the clicking sounds, I did sort of humming sounds, consonant sounds, breathing strange sounds… The sound designer went away and created that weird sound.”
The film also stars Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes and deals with humanity at large finding out the truth about alien existence.
Early reaction for the David Koepp-penned film so far have been raves, with the movie set to open on June 12th.
