During this week’s episode of Raw, LA Knight threw his name in the hat for WWE’s upcoming King of the Ring tournament. A couple more names joined the field during tonight’s (May 29) episode of SmackDown, and WWE also confirmed some key details about the competition.
The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments begin next week (June 1) on Raw, with the final matches taking place on June 27 at the Night of Champions PLE in Saudi Arabia. The winners earn a “world championship opportunity” at SummerSlam in early August. Here is WWE’s video package on the history and importance of these tournaments.
Later in the SmackDown broadcast, United States Champion Trick Williams declared himself for the King of the Ring, while Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne officially entered the Queen of the Ring.
Could there be SummerSlam plans for WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Trick Williams, WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Jacy Jayne, or World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight? I doubt the megastar has much of a chance to win, but we will know for sure in less than one month when the tournament concludes.
